A Music Quiz

Listed below are one or two lines from a song. All the songs were popular, at least in the U.S., and each one is by a different artist. Your challenge is to figure out the ARTIST, and SONG TITLE, from the words given. Duets and groups don't count as the 'same' artist (for example, Simon and Garfunkel, and then Paul Simon by himself, count as two separate artists). This one is 99% 70's music...there are a few that slipped by me that are actually late sixties or very early 80's (including several that were released at the end of '79 but didn't chart until '80), but they're close enough that I've left them in.

The links to the answers are next to each lyric - but if you have Javascript disabled you may not be able to use them. At the very bottom is a regular text link to the answer pages if you can't use the scripted ones.

01/13/02 - Okay, there is a sequel to the quiz now! It's not as long (yet), and hopefully there are no duplicates.

01/21/06 - Gosh, has it really been four years since I've done anything with this? Wow, doesn't the time fly by. Okay, this update is that now the answers for each lyric will pop up in a box (no more going back and forth between answer list and quiz). Also, where you see the musical note symbol, you can click it to listen to an MP3 audio clip of the lyric to help you if you're stumped. :)

I am happy to answer questions about songs, feel free to email me or post it on the message board. The message board is probably better, since if I can't answer it, maybe another visitor can! Plus, I'm just not real good at keeping up with email all the time. :(

Oh, and one more thing I'd like to add. Since I put this quiz up, I've seen it copied and posted elsewhere a few times. I don't mind if you do that...but if you do, please at least give me credit as the author, or provide a link back to this page. I put a lot of work into this...please at least give me that much courtesy.

Well, there it is...hope you enjoyed it !!

Find out who wrote this terrible quiz

Wow...I never imagined how popular this site would get, when I put it up originally. I've gotten a lot of great emails since then, and helped a lot of folks find that 'one song' that they've been looking for for years. I know how that is, there are still some songs out there for me that are out of print/release that I'd love to have on CD. I figure someday they'll be re-released.

I got the idea for this quiz originally, when a friend at work printed out an email with an 80's music quiz on it. We sat down and worked that one, and then found a sequel and worked that one too (and no, I don't have copies of either one, unfortunately). I've given up trying to include links to any other music quizzes, because every time I put one up, the owner takes it down and I have to edit my page and find another. They're out there, put "80's Music Quiz" (with the quotes) into Google and I bet you'll find one.

Anyway, I had a link to an 80's quiz on my music page originally, and when someone notified me it was dead, I was about to take it down when I thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be neat to write my own, but on 70's instead of 80's?" So I did, and the rest is history, as they say.

So, that was how and why this quiz came to be, and I'm glad that all of you have enjoyed it. I enjoyed making it, too! It brought back a lot of memories for me, and hope it has for you as well.
